YCMH doctors and nurses along with 7 journalists test positive for COVID-19 in Pimpri

Almost 15 doctors and 10 staff nurses from PCMC-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri have tested positive for the coronavirus infection. Also, seven journalists from different media groups were tested positive for the coronavirus infection in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Doctors and nurses of YCMH were handling COVID-19 patients in different wards. At least three family members of the doctors who were infected were admitted. Dr Yashwant Ingle is also one of the YCMH doctors who have tested positive. He is the head of the dental department and was admitted to YCMH after taking two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. 

Dean of YCMH, Dr Rajendra Wable confirmed that 10 -15 doctors have tested positive for coronavirus infection in the past few days. Also, 10 staff nurses are tested positive and they have created a special ward for the staff.

Dr Pravin Soni, who is the head of the COVID department said that YCMH should be declared a dedicated COVID hospital as last year that will help them to do full justice to the COVID-19 patients. Dr Wable said he has discussed the plan with the civic administration. He further said YCMH had 210 beds in general wards that are reserved only for COVID patients. Also, 45 ICU beds are also full.

Seven journalists who belonged to television and print media are also tested positive in the past few days and are admitted to civic hospitals. One of the journalists said that his wife first tested positive for the virus and then his son and now he has tested positive. He and his son are now discharged from hospital, but his wife is still in the hospital. She tested positive just two days after receiving the 2nd dose of the vaccine.
